Problems well water can cause

Hard water

Most well water is hard, meaning it has elevated calcium and magnesium content. Hard water can cause dry hair, dry skin, and flaky, itchy scalp, as well as leave rust-colored water stains in your sink and shower.

Smelly water

If your well water smells like rotten eggs, it’s likely due to hydrogen sulfide gas. Sulfur bacteria is generally not harmful, but it’s a good idea to get your water tested to be sure other bacteria (such as E. coli) aren’t present.

Cloudy water

If there is structural damage in your well, rainwater can run into your water supply, causing foggy or cloudy water at the tap. Cloudy water can also be the result of air bubbles created when cold air mixes with your water supply.

Bad tasting water

If your well water comes from a lake or a river, it could become contaminated by algae blooms, resulting in dirty tasting water. Algae blooms can also cause gastrointestinal issues and dizziness. Other contaminants like chlorine and pesticides can cause a metallic water taste.

Bacteria and viruses can enter your well water from the source (ground water, lakes, rivers) and cause real health issues, especially for children, people who are pregnant, elderly people, and people with compromised immune systems.
